Week Four

We see the problems, and we can do something about them

GOal of Group

Discuss our approach to generosity and sacrifice as we prepare for Commitment Sunday.
Note: We are not discussing the amount that any person is giving. Instead, we’re focused on the sacrifice we’re making and our personal feelings around generosity.

Activity: Unlimited Budget & Blessing

  • As you began to budget your generosity this week, did it stir up any emotions for you?

    • Excitement? Fear? Joy? Something else?

  • In the story of the Widow’s Offering on page 73, we see Jesus praise the widow’s sacrifice, not the amount of her gift. How does the idea of giving equal sacrifice, rather than equal gifts, resonate with you?

  • On page 78 of the journey guide, it challenges us to bless someone this week. Does anyone have an idea of how you plan to be a blessing to someone?

    • If you have already done this, what impact did it have on you and the recipient?

Discussion Questions

  • What does sacrificial generosity mean to you personally and how does it differ from regular giving?

  • How can you allow your generosity to increase your reliance on God?

  • Is anyone willing to share a personal experience where you practiced sacrificial generosity before? How did it impact you?

  • Reflect on your own giving over the past year. Have there been times when your motives for giving were not aligned with a spirit of generosity?

  • How can you ensure that your giving is motivated by a genuine desire to support God's work rather than seeking recognition or approval from others?

  • What role does sacrificial generosity play in empowering the church to fulfill its mission in the community and beyond?
